Abstract: A 3D thermal conduction model is set up, and the shapes as well as temperature distributions of initial solidified shells in moulds for continuous casting of thin slabs are obtained with finite differential method, based on which the stress and strain distributions are given out using 3D thermal elasto-plastic contact finite element method. Practical analyses are carried out with a forementioned methods. Comparison of temperature, stress, deformation and cracking index between two types of mould in two different drawing speeds give some significant instruction for the control of process parameters of continuous casting for thin slabs.
