
The Buckling Analysis of the Armature (Cylindrical Shell) in Coilguns

Abstract: In this paper, the elastic buckling problem of a 5-stage
coilgun's armature loaded with complex electromagnetic forces is analyzed using FEM. The
8-nodded is oparametric shell element is used and the calculation model under the global
cylindrical coordinate system is given. The calculation of electromagnetic forces,
the load distribution and the problem of locking are discussed in detail. A linear
buckling analysis program for perfect cylindrical thin-shells is composed and the critical
loads of a 5-stage gun's armature are obtained.
