Abstract: The general expression for the instantaneous potential energy functional of elas tic system is given at first, and then the special for the arbitrarily curved an d twisted pipe conveying fluid is obtained. The dynamic finite element equations of the structure are established through the application of the minimum instant aneous potential energy principle. The centrifugal load formulations on the stru c ture are derived maidenly. The determinations for the static balanced position a nd the divergent mass transport velocity are discussed. The static and dynamic c alculations for a given example are carried out for comparion with a simple expe riment. Keywords: pipe conveying fluid, variation principle, fin ite element method.
