£Ábstract: The vibration characteristics of a rotor system supported on oil film bearings, when rotor-to-stator rub occurs, is analyzed. Rotating speed and unbalance are used as control parameters to investigate routes to and out of chaos, and various forms of periodic, quasi-periodic and chaotic vibrations of the system. Numerical results show that routes to and out of chaos are through period-doubling bifurcation, intermittence, quasi-periodic route, and a kind of sudden transiti on route between periodic and chaotic vibrations.
