£Ábstract: Based upon assumptions of small deformation and linear elasticity, the finiteel ement formulas of stiffened plates/shells with addition of damping bands, including selection of element types and shape functions, are developed. The dual asy mptotic method developed previously by the authors is employed to solve the finite element equation. Through eigenanalysis and vibration measurements of a stiff ened plate with damping treatment on the skin areas between the adjacent stringers, it is validated that the analytical method and the computer software develop ed here have very well accuracy and wide engineering applicability.
