An Analytical Solution to Cylindrical Cavity Expansion
in Softening Soil Mass

Abstract: An analytical solution to cylindrical cavity expansion in linear softening soil mass with shear dilation is presented in this paper. On the basis of volume equation, the limitexpansion pressure and maximum plastic zone radius are given. The results in this paper overcome some shortcomings of the classic theory and agree well with the practice. The effects of softening and shear dilation on cavityexpansion are discussed as well.
