AbstractBased on Reissner-Mindlin first order shear deformation plate theory, the bending for an initially stressed, middle-thickness rectangular plate with four free edges on elastic half-space foundation is investigated, where the initial stresses are induced by in-plane mechanical loads or temperature variation, and the foundation is regarded as a three dimensional elastic half-space with weakening deformation. A set of pb-2 eigenfunctions, for free edge is adopted and Rayleigh-Ritz method is employed to determine the deflections and bending moments of the plate. The effects from initial membrane stress and thermal stress are discussed.
