Abstract: Based on the three-dimensional anisotropic piezoelectric damage const itutive model
proposed by Yang etc., the constitutive equation and equilibrium equation for extended
plane stress piezoelectric damage problems are obtained, and then effects of opening angle
and depth on the mechanical and electrical damages ahead of a piezoelectric notch are
investigated with finite element method. It is shown from the numerical results that the
opening angle has little effect on the mechanical damage and hardly changes the sizes of
the mechanical and elect rical damage regions, but the notch depth has obvious influence
on the damage level and the size of the electrical damage regions.
Keywords: mechanical and electrical damages, extended plane stress
problems, finite element method, V-shaped notch.
