Abstract: The vortex shedding observed in the wake behind a bluff body incre ases drag and lift forces on the body surface. The fluctuations of drag and lift forces usually result in the body vibrateing and the flow-induced noise in the wake region to lead to the unexepeted engineering effects. Combined the exper iments with calculation, the electro-magnetic control to cylinder wake is discussed, and the governing mechanism of wake control by magnetohydrodynamic forces is elucidated. The possible measures of vortex suppression, resistance reduction and vibration control are indicated finally.
