Abstract: Drawing a round rod immersed in granular materials, the sliding friction force between the rod and granular materials are measured. It is observed t hat the sliding friction force is distinctly different from that between continu umsolid, but nonlinearly increases with the drag time. The power spectrum analy sis reveals a relationship between power S(f) and frequency f,  ie., S£¨f £©¡Øf£1.80¡À0.05. It is explained with the model of self-organized criticality that the continual avalanching and regrouping arise in the granul ar materials under the outer disturbances.
Keywords: granular materials, sliding friction, power spectrum, self-organized criticality.
