Rigid-plastic FEM Algorithm and Realization in Orthogonal Cutting Process

Abstract: The key problems in orthogonal cutting analysis with Rigid-plastic FEM, such as the rule of separation between chip and work material, the criterion of separation between chip and face etc., are discussed systematically. The detailed algorithm of element stiffness matrix and node load vector is pro posed on rigid-plastic assumption, and the technique for revising grid aberration owing to large deformation is introduced simultaneously. Employed the developed program for orthogonal cutting, a complete simulation for aluminum alloy ZL-301 is carried out. The computational results are well coincident with the exper imental ones.
