Abstract: Flattened Brazilian disc samples were
first chosen in the dynamic split tests. The dynamic split tests of marble using both
Brazilian disc and fla ttened Brazilian disc were performed at high strain rate with split
Hopkins pres sure bar(SHPB) of 100mm diameter. With finite element analysis, dynamic
tensile strength for marble was obtained and typical failure modes of the Brazilian disc
and the flattened Brazilian disc were analyzed. The results show that the dynamic tensile
strength of marble is heightened with increasing strain rate. It is a simple, effective
and ideal method to stick strain gages on the center of the sample to gain the dynamic
tensile strength for brittle materials. Flattened Brazilian disc outperforms Brazilian one
for flexibility and measure effect.
