Abstract: According to the Timoshenko beam theory, shape functions of generalized displacements are constructed. Using the transformation between skew coordinate and orthogonal coordinate, a parallel quadrilateral plate element is constructed by using the finite belt and shape functions of generalized deep beam displacements. The displacement mode,
stiffness and equivalent force are derived. Simply-supported and clamped square plate under distributed loading,
Razzaque problem of skew plate and simply-supported skew plate under distributed loading and
concentrated loading are analyzed. Numeric results agree with other theories very well. This element is free from shear lock and can be used to analyze the skew
plate bridges.
Keywords: bending of skew plate, generalized thick/thin parallel qradrilateral plate element, finite belt, shear locking.
