
Deformation Study of Steel Plate in Heating Furnace Using
Visco-Plasticity Model

Abstract: In heating furnace, because of high temperature and its weight, the steel plate will deform. Both of its end part suspended over
the beams will bend down. When the suspended parts are long enough, the ends will touch the exit wall of the furnace, causing difficulties for steel plate to go outside continuously. This paper studies the deformation of steel plate in the
heating furnace. Firstly we calculate the temperature changes with the time in
the furnace using transient conduction model in two dimensions. Secondly we calculate the deformation of the steel plate caused by gravity at high temperature using
visco-plasticity model. The calculated temperature and deformation at the
exit of the furnace are consistent with the measured data, which indicates the accuracy of the models along with the calculation methods. It can be used as guidance for loading steel plates in the furnace.
