Abstract: The properties of the three-point fifth-order generalized compact scheme are presented. This scheme satisfies the principle about suppression of the
oscillations and the principle of stability. It has spectral-like resolution characteristics and good isotropy properties, and is
shock-capturing. The time dependent boundary conditions proposed by Thompson are well employed when the algorithm is applied to the Euler and
N-S equations of gas dynamics.
Keywords: generalized compact scheme, principle about suppression of the oscillations, principle of stability,
