Abstract: The dynamic characteristics of
flexible-jointed-damping-based multple tuned mass dampers (MTMD) are studied in reducing the seismic response of structures. Employing the derived transfer function of the MTMD structure system,
the design formula for the dynamic magnification factor (DMF) of the MTMD structure system is then derived. The minimization of the minimum values of the maximum DMF (Min. Min. Max. DMF) is chosen as the optimum criterion. Subsequently, the
optimum parameters of the MTMD and the corresponding Min. Min. Max. DMF are obtained for different stiffness ratio. For the purpose of comparison, the results
for rigid-jointed-damping-based MTMD (R=0) are also taken into account.
Extensive numerical analyses indicate that the performance of the conventional rigid-jointed-damping-based MTMD may be extended to
flexible-jointed-damping-based MTMD within a certain range of stiffness ratio.
