Abstract: Under three given hypotheses: (1) the
micro-profile of
rough surfaces is isotropic£»(2) the interactions between neighboring asperities of rough surfaces can be ignored£»(3) the force applied on each asperity at rough surfaces is directly proportional to its contact area, a fractal model of the tangential contact stiffness of machined surfaces in contact is built up based
on the tangential contact stiffness between a sphere and a plane and the contact fractal theory of rough surfaces, at the first time in the paper. The simulating results of this model are identical qualitatively with the experimental results made by certain previous researchers. So it shows that this model is reasonable. This model is independent with scale.
