Abstract: Using active aerodynamic wing is a new aerodynamic measure for bridge stability. Based on the unsteady aerodynamic theory, the express
ions of the aerodynamic forces acted on per length of the whole bridge deck are
derived. The bridge deck consists of the original bridge deck and the active aerodynamic wings
attached bellow the leading and the trailing edges of the deck. Then, from the
standpoint of increasing the torsional damping of the system, the selection of
the parameters of the active torsional vibration of the active aerodynamic wings is discussed. Finally, the flutter analysis of a
long-span suspension bridge
project is carried out with the 2-DOF mathematical model. The results show that
with reasonable selection of the parameters of the active torsional vibration,
the active aerodynamic wings can improve the flutter stability of the bridge effectively.
