Abstract: The dynamic characteristics of double-decked vanes mechanism are comprehensively analyzed with the aid of the developed model. The results demonstrate that the viscous loss between double-decked vanes is so small that can be neglected in practical design. By using doubledecked vanes mechanism, the binding forces, friction loss and wear on vane tip can be decreased, but the vane stress can be increased. Thickness ratio of the upper vane to the lower is a key to the design of double-decked vane mechanism. By discussing the influences of the ratio on forces, friction, wear and strength of double-decked vanes, the suitable thic kness ratio is optimized.
