Abstract The strip distributed transfer function method (SDTFM) based on mixed state vectors is proposed for the analysis of rectangular thick plates. Introducing the nodal displacement vector and enforcing displacement continuity and force balance at the interconnecting nodes, the SDTFM solutions for different rectangular substructures are assembled to give the solutions of thick plates with complex geometric configurations and arbitrary boundary conditions. As the uniformity of nodal displacement by FEM and SDTFM, the strip transfer function solution of the rectangular plate can be considered as a super-element. Hence, synthesizing this superelement with finite elements can increase the adaptability of SDTFM for complex problems.
